Healing Herbal Remedies

Many people like to make up their own healing herbal remedies from herbs and other natural items. While it is important to discuss any type of medicine or supplement you take with your healthcare provider or doctor, it is also interesting to see what types of herbal remedies people are using to heal themselves. Let’s take a look at some of the remedies people either make from herbs or purchase already formulated.

While there are literally thousands of herbs and different types of the same herbs, some are more popular than others. Some herbs may be used for just one purpose while other herbs, like peppermint, are used for a multitude of ailments. Peppermint can soothe aching muscles when applied topically and it can also aid in indigestion. Lavender is another herb that is used for many different ailments. Some people use lavender essential oil to treat eczema and insect bites; others use lavender to make a soothing tea before bedtime.

While some people like to use only herbal remedies or alternative remedies as opposed to traditional medicine, others just like to experiment. Fortunately, many doctors today are well versed in alternative medicine as well as traditional medicine and often, they are happy to recommend alternative herbs or treatments when someone voices their concern about taking traditional medicine that may have unpleasant side effects.

Experimenting with herbs doesn’t mean you have to give up traditional medicine or therapies. Still, it’s nice to know about alternatives in times when you may not be able to get to a doctor or pharmacy. Some healing remedies are as simple as a cup of herbal tea. So you really don’t have to choose between herbal medicine and traditional medicine. Many people, doctors included, combine the two and it works perfectly for them. While it is nice to know about healing herbal remedies, that doesn’t mean that you have to give up traditional treatments or medications.
